Ruairi McGuiness, sound artist and coffee entrepreneur recorded artists’ conversations from FIGURE3 exhibition at BALTIC39 during a month of recordings and Stairwell Conversations.
When asked about his early creative experiences, he talked about creating spaces by helping his dad knock down walls and build new ones in his home. The physicality of creating new spaces from a familiar environment has perhaps led to his creation of a social hub at Jesmond and Central Metro station. Coolaboola is not just a coffee outlet, it is somewhere for people to gather and socialise, he and his staff have made a difference in the community. His newest venture at Olivia’s, Trinity on Gosforth High Street has the same magic.
Ruairi has recorded artists’ conversations and remixed them to form beautiful and immersive sound installations.
The premiere was held at BALTIC on Thursday 15th September 2016
…….and performed to great acclaim on Saturday 17th…
